I went to Bregenz with my new friends from Friedrichschafen, would have been a bigger crowd, but the weather was so rainy no one else wanted to come. We went May 1st since it was German Labor day and most places would not be open.
Austria is very similar to Germany, it was just a short train ride in about 30 mins. On the way back we took the ferry which was 2 hours. The weather was cold and scattered showers, so we didn't get to see the whole city, missed out on the Festspielhaus, where all the concerts and theatre takes place, but were able to go up to the Pfander Mountain.
First started heading for Oberstadt (upper town) where there are beautiful cobbelstone streets. Throughout the streets you stumble upon Martinsturm, which has the biggest Baroque bulb - shaped steeple in Central Europe! Inside there is a Military Museum.
Someone has their boat parked on the narrow streets, wonder how they get it down to the lake. Hanging the clothes out to dry!
The houses were so colorful and each had a medival type of design to them. As dark as the day was there was so much light from the houses.
Finding our way to Martinstrum

View from atop!
We then made our way to the Pfanderbahn. There should have been an amazing view, but with all the fog and rain starting to come down it didn't turn out to be the best. We still had fun though!
Please, not so fast! I tell the kids this all the time. There are so many little odd signs and characteristics of Bregenz.
One of the little stands where you can pick up a refreshment. The selection of beer was not the best. One of the guys bought a can of beer for 2 Euro which is pretty expensive and he said it did not taste very good.
Taking the lift up to Pfander Mountain, there is a trail that you can take up, about 2 hours long. There is much wildlife up here, play area for kids, waterpark, and restaurants. The guys are Kia, Liam, Christian, Jon, Jochen, and Sai.
We were walking for about 2 hours at this point and since it was starting to rain we all thought it would be a good idea to head down to the restaurant for lunch and a beer.
Our Currency, too bad they only take Euros
Headed down to the Lake for one more treat and then to head home. The storms were starting to roll in.
It was a great day, couple of hours in a new city with new friends. We had many, many laughs and although it was cold we found great sites, food, and beer!
