Salzburg, Austria

Friday July 2nd I am off to Salzburg. The train ride is only 5 hours away. This is a breeze compared to last weekend! Going along with my new best friend the TRAIN, my route is Langenargen to Munich to Salzburg.  Looking at the train route, I start to wonder; why didn't I go to Vienna and Budapest. So many places on the list, just not enough time (or money).

I arrive in Salzburg at 4pm on Friday afternoon. I read the whole time to make sure I had a plan of action. Salzburg seemed really big and had a lot of activities. I was getting a little confused on which I should do on what day. The good thing is most of the tourist sites are open later than 6p.
As soon as the train stops I get off and head to my hostel. The biggest pain about this trip was I booked my accomodations too late. I had to book two different hostels this trip...big inconvience.
The first hostel I stayed at was right by the train station and with easy access to the city center. Yoho Hostel, one of the famous hostels. I checked in and the staff was ok they weren't as warm as Lollis and so I went to my room to put my things away and make my bed. There was a girl in there from Korea, So, she was really nice and we talked for a bit.
I walked down the street to the find the Salzbach River which will lead to Alstadt. The road I took led me straight to the Mirabellgarten and STA Travel. I stopped in to say hello and check it out since I missed out on the Dresden location. The first lady I talked to didn't care when I said I worked for the company in the States. The other girl Trease was so nice and we talked for about 20 mins. She told me must sees and I bought my Salzburg Museum card from her.
The time was about 4:30p and I was going to head to Hellbrunne to see the Palace and catch the Trick Fountains.  I had to catch the No. 25 bus, but first for some Eis. Pistaze is my favorite if anyone wants to know!
It seemed like the No. 25 bus was never going to arrive and there was no time table at this stop to tell when it would come, so I waited and waited. It was a 5 minute walk from the bus station to the entrance. Now with my Salzburg Card (paid for the 48hr, 33 Euro) I get free entry on most sites. Basically, everything I wanted to do was included. Came out to be a huge money saver and I didn't limited myself to certain museums.

The water show started at 5:30pm with a tour guide. Was wondering why we needed a guide, now I know. He gives you all the history of the Fountain's structure and architecture. There is no electricity here, everything is built to run on water and garvity alone. He had a key which would turn on the water, this table in the middle the little girls were sitting at and then he turned on the water and it was spraying up from the seats (at first I thought maybe it was a show and they knew). No acting involved here.
This was a room built to go in on hot summer days. It was so cold from the tiles and the water running down the walls.

Outdoor Concrete Stage.

having fun.
almost got stepped on.
Garden at Hellburn
Walk down Mozart Bridge

Inside Neu Residenz, they had millions of mirrors.

Inside the Dom
In the plaza a huge chess board, it was blazing hot so no one was playing.

St. Peter's cemetary

Arial view of Salzburg.
Looking out from the fortess, yes that is a canon.
Festung Hohensalzburg
This totally creeped me out so I had to do it!
Seriously pretty steep way up!
Anywhere you go in Salzburg you literally have a  panoramic view. It was hard to put the camera down.
Walking on top of Monchsberg. I went to go to the Museum but it was closed that evening for a party. That is Mullner Kirche. I was making way to Augustiner beer garden.
The last day I went to Stiegl Brau and Mirabell Garden

The brewery was really nice, I enjoyed the layout and the museum. It was the best one that I have been to. They gave me 3 sample tickets and a free gift!!
Then it was off to Mirabell
There was a band playing some traditional songs as well as theme songs from the Sound of Music
The last hour I went on the river cruise (again part of the Salzburg Card). There was one leaving at 3p and the lady at the tourist information said I would not make it to just get the next one at 4p. My train was leaving at 5p so I wouldn't have enough time. I made the 3p!

Panoramics!
